1         The Proposal

1.1           Background

i2i Concepts, based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, is an early-to-market commercial services company offering expertise in digital media, MAM consulting services and the development of 'smart' digital archives, and post production.

Stichting Nieuw Millennium (NM) also based in Amsterdam, is a foundation set up to archive a significant portion of deteriorating content created since the dawn of radio, film, video, television and music recording. Its goal is to fund the training of an international labor force to address the task of archiving global histories and heritages now captured on film, video, and vinyl.

The integrated objective of both companies is to build an international franchise for creating and commercializing digital archives that provide great social as well as financial rewards. The ësmartí digital archives at the center of the social and financial agendas of NM and i2i Concepts are based on Convera software that drives the advanced digitizing, indexing, and archiving processes.

1.2           Program Scope

Stichting Nieuw Millennium (NM) and i2i Concepts (i2i) wish to develop a co-marketing program to promote Media Archive development based on Convera software to high profile public and private institutions across the globe, in order to penetrate and develop this vast market.

The program consists of three parts:

1.    Support the business development of high profile archives in audio, television and medical applications that can be used for marketing and PR, and to gain entry for additional projects.

2.    Support the international franchising of ëThe Hiveí and ìSaving History Agendaî, based on Convera software, to propagate Media Archive development.

3.    Co-sponsor attendance and presentation at the prestigious ETRE in October (European Technology Roundtable Exhibition ñ www.etre2002.com) to gain exposure, recognition and financial support from the top leaders of global IT and government institutions.

1.3           Project Details

1.   High Profile MAM Archives

The following are Nieuw Millenium/i2iConceptsí high priority, high visibility MAM projects using Convera software with key meetings scheduled for September 2002.  These projects could involve multiple levels of participation, endorsement, or support from Convera:

The Arnold Jacobsen Recorded Sound Collection - NM is currently developing a prototype web-based digital archive for this historic collection of over 100,000 vinyl records documenting American popular music up to 1960, http://detnews.com/2002/metro/0206/06/d06d-507441.htm Selections from the collection are being encoded, indexed and archived in NMís Hive facility in Amsterdam.

Immediate needs are to complete the prototype and project proposal to present in September, 2002, to the Music Division of the US Library of Congress, The Smithsonian Institution, The National Archives and The National Endowment for the Arts in America, The Society of Authors and Composers in Paris and The EU New Media Programme.  The Chicago Public Library owns Jacobsenís first collection, The Arnold Jacobsen Recorded Collection, and will be presented a similar prototype.

Surinam Television Archive (Surinaamse Televisie Stichting: STVS) ñ In 1965, STVS became the first, and for 22 years, the only television station in Surinam, a former Dutch colony. Since then, STVS has managed to survive a civil war and a series of military coups. When the television station was bombed during a coup, the surviving tapes were salvaged and stored under less than optimum conditions.

Nieuw Millennium has established a relationship with STVS and brought a small cache of historical film, including some footage of the Dutch Queen, Beatrix, to Amsterdam to begin the STVS project.

Transfer tests performed at Nieuw Millenniumís Hive facility in Amsterdam have produced successful results bringing the film through the ëdigitisingí process. Samples of the content have now been encoded, indexed, and archived; as part of a prototype to be presented in September to the Surinam Ambassador to The Netherlands and The Mayor of The City of Amsterdam who have recently entered into an agreement of cultural and financial support.  Over ten percent of the population of Amsterdam is from Surinam.  In addition, the Amsterdam City Archives, Netherlands Film Museum, and the Netherlands Audiovisual Archive (NAA) have shown interest in the system. The Next step will be the evaluation of the project by the Mayor and the Ambassador in September to approve a first stage assessment of the surviving archive, followed by the formal process itself.

Medical Education and Patient Record Applications ñ Nieuw Millennium has not yet performed MAM projects in this industry sector, but has contacts at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota.  Thus far, Convera seems to be targeting medical and drug research sectors with little to no penetration in patient records and medical education, which could be investigated by NM/i2i.

A question to Convera is if it has experience, marketing collateral or service support to offer to develop these opportunities with NM/i2iConcpets.

2.   International Franchising of The Hive & Saving History Agenda

NM and i2i are actively courting funding to invest and develop the international franchising of ëThe Hiveí and the ëSaving History Agendaí, both of which are based on Convera-style software.

Endorsement and support of NM/i2i by Convera would greatly enhance the level of interest and financial support from potential investors in developing MAM services. Convera may also be interested to invest.

3.

Presentation at ETRA Technology Forum

In addition to current high profile projects, NM/i2i has won the approval and invitation by the DASAR Group to showcase its agenda together with Convera at the prestigious ETRE Forum to be held in October in Seville. (ETRE presents the most exclusive gathering of IT CEOís and Investors from across the globe: www.etre2002.com  www.dasar.com ).

This is a prime marketing and sales opportunity to showcase Convera based MAM services to the most influential group of global technology, financial, and government leaders.

A follow-up meeting is scheduled for the Bay Area of the US in mid-September where a co-op proposal should be presented.

1.4           Program Benefits

1.5           Moving Forward

Given our project momentum, close communication with DASAR, and urgency regarding our invitation to the ETRA forum early October, we would like to schedule a conference call with Convera for this Friday, August the 30th  at 10:30 GMT.

Agenda items for the call will be the following:

       Make introductions

Review objectives, framework, and elements of a co-marketing partnership

       Communicate mutual needs and goals

       Discuss participation in ETRA

2            Why i2i Concepts & Nieuw Millennium

I2i Concepts and NM work in tandem to promote the incorporation of Digital Asset Management (DAM- the conversion, cataloguing and distribution of multimedia content) technology and services into the public and private, profit and non-profit sectors.

The i2i Concepts model is significant because it removes the barriers that have prohibited the wide scale adoption of DAM, by offering a simplified and standardized approach to the technology through franchising of its ìHiveî and ìTEA Factoryî (Technology for Education and Arts). These franchises combine to build self-propagating and self-sustaining distributed archives.

Technology/Market Information

The global collection of content that constitutes modern history, culture and industry is massive, most of which is decomposing due to half-life, storage and financial issues. Applying advanced digitising, indexing and archiving software for media production and low band broadcasting, i2i and NM promote Saving History, Scaling Down Technology, & Everybody Publishes agendas.

To overcome the cost in resources required to archive the content, the franchises provide a model whereby funds are acquired, and a global labor force trained, assembled and financially compensated.  The franchises are designed to be financially independent in 2 years, while providing training and jobs.
